SPAIQ FrameFlex

Real-time AI frame interpolation and frame rate conversion

Formula cars racing on a circuit

SPAIQ FrameFlex is a new product in SPAIQ, the AI video technology from Italy-based Small Pixels. It interpolates frames and converts frame rates in real time, with broadcast-grade smoothness and none of the usual “AI weirdness”.

Traditional frame rate conversion has always been a compromise. Standard motion estimation tends to break on fast sports, strobe lights or quick cuts, while generic AI tools often introduce hallucinations such as warping, flicker or unstable edges. Built on a modern neural approach to understanding motion, SPAIQ FrameFlex generates intermediate frames that stay physically consistent with the original signal, so motion looks native and coherent even in the most demanding broadcast scenarios.

Precision Where Others Fail

FrameFlex is optimized for the “impossible” shots where traditional frame interpolation typically collapses.

Key Benefits
01 Broadcast-grade smoothness

Stable, natural interpolation removes judder and motion blur to meet the highest production standards.

02 True-to-source integrity

Visual credibility comes first. FrameFlex minimizes common AI artifacts like rubber-sheet warping, halos and temporal shimmer.

03 Real-time performance

Engineered for live pipelines, delivering high-fps output with ultra-low end-to-end latency (under 100 ms).

04 Multi-standard flexibility

Reliable, high-quality conversion across global standards, for example PAL (25) to NTSC (29.97), as well as custom, non-standard frame rates.

05 Zero workflow disruption

Fully encoder-agnostic and easy to integrate into your existing infrastructure without redesigning your transmission chain.

FrameFlex for Slow Motion

FrameFlex can also turn standard frame-rate footage into ultra-smooth slow motion with AI-generated intermediate frames. Traditional slow motion simply stretches existing frames, resulting in choppy, stuttering motion. FrameFlex generates physically consistent frames between every original image, creating fluid slow motion even from 25 fps or 30 fps recordings, with cinematic replay quality and no high-speed cameras or specialized equipment.

In the maker’s demo, H.264 1080p footage at 50 fps is converted to 150 fps and played back at 50 fps (+150% frame rate). For live sports replay, see the dedicated SPAIQ SloMoPlus.

Viewer Test Results

Blind testing with 100 real viewers across multiple levels of expertise, conducted by Testlio:

The results confirm that FrameFlex motion synthesis is perceived as natural, broadcast-grade video. Unlike traditional interpolation, it delivers high-fps fluidity without the “soap opera effect” or the warping that breaks immersion. For sports broadcasters, OTT platforms and live producers, smoother motion is a retention strategy as much as a technical upgrade, with fewer viewer complaints and QC issues.

FAQ
How does SPAIQ FrameFlex keep motion natural?

It uses physically consistent neural synthesis to improve fluidity while preserving the original look, without introducing artifacts.

Is it suitable for live pipelines?

Yes. It runs with ultra-low latency (under 100 ms) for perfectly synchronized, smooth motion in real-time broadcasts.

Does it handle fast scene changes?

Yes. It keeps structural integrity through quick cuts, strobe lighting, staying stable where traditional tools fail.
