SPAIQ SloMoPlus is a new product in SPAIQ, the AI video technology from Italy-based Small Pixels. Using AI-powered frame interpolation, it turns standard frame-rate footage into ultra-smooth super slow motion.
Traditional slow motion simply stretches existing frames, resulting in choppy, stuttering motion. High-quality super slow motion has relied on dedicated high frame rate (HFR) cameras capturing up to 150 or 180 fps. They deliver excellent results but cannot always be placed at every camera position or on every production, because they require specialized equipment and significant extra investment.
SPAIQ SloMoPlus analyzes the motion between consecutive frames and synthesizes physically consistent intermediate frames. It significantly raises the source frame rate while preserving structural integrity, effectively turning standard production cameras into virtual HFR cameras. The same technology also enhances existing footage for digital, social, promotional and user-generated content.

1. Virtual HFR cameras for live replay
In live sports, deploying dedicated HFR cameras at every position is not always economically viable or operationally practical. SPAIQ SloMoPlus turns standard cameras into virtual HFR cameras through real-time AI processing.
Starting from a standard camera feed over SDI or SRT, it raises the frame rate by 2x, 3x or 4x and delivers a continuous super slow motion feed in several formats, including 3-phase SDI, SRT and growing files. Replay operators can pull exactly the clips they need within their existing control room workflow, gaining super slow motion from multiple standard angles while reducing the need for dedicated HFR equipment.
2. File-based super slow motion for highlights, social content and live clips
Not every slow-motion sequence has to be created live. SPAIQ SloMoPlus also processes existing clips, turning standard frame-rate footage into smooth super slow motion for highlights, social media, promotion and post-event production. Drop a clip into a watch folder and get back a slow-motion clip with added intermediate frames, with no HFR cameras or changes to the original production setup.
