Some Nice Takeaways from Amsterdam
IBC 2026 is already behind us, but some of the technologies and ideas presented this year deserve a closer look.
From a 25-year-old strategic vision that anticipated today’s increasingly software-defined broadcast industry, to new ways of controlling cameras, building IP multiviewers and deploying flexible server-based applications, here are a few developments from our partners that we thought were particularly worth bringing home from Amsterdam.
A Vision That Aged Rather Well
When DekTec started 25 years ago, professional broadcast equipment was largely built around dedicated hardware and embedded processing. Meanwhile, Moore’s Law was demonstrating how rapidly the processing power of general-purpose computers was increasing.
DekTec made an important bet: computers would play an increasingly important role in broadcast. Instead of building every function into proprietary appliances, professional interfaces could connect broadcast signals to the computer, while an increasing share of the actual processing could be performed in software.
Twenty-five years later, that original vision feels remarkably familiar. A large part of modern broadcast infrastructure has progressively become software-defined, with more and more processing running on CPUs, GPUs and standard server platforms.
At IBC 2026, DekTec demonstrated this continuing evolution with developments including:
- DTA-2178 integration with Unreal Engine
- the new DTA-2117 six-channel modulator, including Brazilian DTV+ MIMO test-signal generation
- the updated DTE-3120B with SRT support
- the first prototype of the DTA-2150, a dual-port 25GbE SmartNIC for SMPTE ST 2110 applications
- continued development of software tools including StreamXpert, with expanding ST 2110 and JPEG-XS capabilities
And throughout its history, this kind of strategic anticipation has been common cooking at DekTec. So stay tuned for the next announcement.
The Scope Just Keeps Growing
The success of CyanView continues to grow, together with the expanding range of use cases addressed by its technology. What started as a highly flexible universal camera-control solution is progressively developing into a broader ecosystem around camera control, remote production, monitoring and advanced image-management workflows.
CyanView Studio
CyanView Studio adds a software layer to the CyanView ecosystem. Its available image monitoring and color-management environment can aggregate cameras controlled through CyanView RCPs onto a single page, allowing operators to monitor their status and access camera controls through a web interface.

📱 Your Smartphone Becomes Another CyanView Camera
With CyanCamera, an iPhone or Android smartphone can become another camera within the CyanView environment, controlled from the same RCP used for the other cameras in the production. Operators can remotely adjust parameters including iris, exposure, shutter, white balance, zoom and focus, while integrating the smartphone into the same operational workflow as the other cameras.
Village Island is glad to be part of this continuing development and success. If you have an unusual camera-control, monitoring or image-management requirement, please contact us and discuss it with us.
Our next shows in Asia where we will demonstrate CyanView include: Inter BEE (Tokyo), KOBA (Seoul), and BroadcastAsia / ATxSG (Singapore).
Expanding the Open IPMX Ecosystem
At IBC 2026, PlexusAV continued to expand its open-standard IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110 ecosystem.
P-AVN-6-S — Uncompressed IPMX and ST 2110
The P-AVN-6-S extends the PlexusAV portfolio into high-bandwidth uncompressed workflows. It is a 25GbE IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110 transceiver with native 12G-SDI connectivity, supporting uncompressed media as well as JPEG-XS for bandwidth-optimized workflows.

Another particularly interesting demonstration at IBC was a new PlexusAV software multiviewer, installable on common PC hardware and supporting IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110 sources. Instead of requiring a dedicated proprietary multiviewer appliance, this software-based approach opens the possibility of building a particularly cost-effective monitoring solution on standard PC hardware.
A Flexible New Server Platform
Sencore used IBC 2026 to launch its new SRV 19022 and SRV 19032 server platforms.
These compact 1RU systems are designed for broadcast, industrial and OEM applications, with three PCIe expansion slots, dual redundant power supplies and long-life industrial components.
They provide a flexible hardware foundation for applications such as:
- IP and SDI processing
- gateways
- capture and playout
- monitoring and transcoding
- Test & Measurement
- third-party broadcast software
- dedicated OEM appliances
The concept fits particularly well with today’s increasingly software-defined broadcast environment: one common server platform can be configured for many different purposes depending on the PCIe hardware and software installed.
Bringing Order to the IP Matrix
SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX have solved the transport of professional media over IP — but how do all those devices actually find and connect to each other?
This is where NMOS — Networked Media Open Specifications — comes in.
Our latest technical article introduces NMOS as the control layer of an IP media infrastructure and explains how specifications such as IS-04 Discovery & Registration and IS-05 Device Connection Management turn a collection of networked devices into something much closer to the familiar broadcast matrix.
NMOS — The Control Guy for IP Media Infrastructure
The article is accompanied by Episode 8 of our “Talking Eye – by Village Island” podcast. Using simple analogies, we look at how IS-04 works like an automated phone book, while IS-05 acts as the connection manager, bringing order to complex IP media networks.
