A Pro Soccer Match, Broadcast Entirely on iPhone

15 iPhone 17 Pro Max units covered an official MLS match — and a Cyanview RIO was spotted on location.

Major League Soccer (MLS) captured and broadcast an official match using nothing but iPhones. According to CNET, this was the first time a professional game in a major sport had been shot entirely on iPhone.

The Broadcast at a Glance

Small Enough to Go Where Big Cameras Can’t

Image quality wasn’t the only thing MLS valued. A major advantage was being able to place cameras where large broadcast cameras can’t get close — behind the goal or right in front of the bench. The seven cameras following distant play were paired with conventional broadcast lenses and run by professional camera operators. Operations in the OB truck were reportedly no different from any other MLS broadcast.

Making Smartphones Part of the Camera Lineup

To bring smartphones into a broadcast, they need to match color with the other cameras and be controllable from the truck. With Cyanview, RCP and RIO let you shade more than 210 camera models from a single system. With the CyanCamera app, smartphones can also be controlled from the same RCP as numbered cameras (currently in private beta).
